The nature of feather construction

The Anatomy of a Feather

By Wayne Luallen

The Anatomy of a Feather
On order to be able to talk about our favourite passtime - fly tying - it's important that we use the same language. I hope to be able to clear the fog a bit in this area.

The drawing above is the first one in a series of explanatory illustrations, that will put a name to the concepts of fly tying and to the parts of its materials. This drawing was made by Wayne Luallen, a well known teacher and demonstrator of fly Tie Betterniques, and a tyer that stresses the importance of knowing your materials and using the proper terminology.
